We are proud of the fact that we put every effort into making it possible for each and every athlete to achieve their goal. Event Medical Services provide more than adequate medical support and athletes are served by rubbing stations en route.
This race is rated as the BEST MARATHON by Tom Cottrell in the Nedbank Runners’ Guide.
Registration takes place on Friday, 23rd February 2018, between 9am and 8pm, Saturday, 24th February, between 9am and 5pm or on Sunday morning prior to the start from 4am to 5.15am.
Here, the Team will give you your race numbers as well as a T-Shirt (all entrants in the half or marathon and early bird 10km entrants).
10km registration will continue from 6.30am until 8:30am on Sunday 25th February 2018.
All foreign athletes are reminded that they are to comply with IAAF Rule 4, Paragraph 2.
Pietermaritzburg may be known as the ‘sleepy hollow’ but come and spend the weekend at one of the many hotels or B & Bs and you could discover a wealth of history, charm and activity.

This two-day off-road journey unfolds over approximately 120 kilometres between Pietermaritzburg in the Kwa Zulu Natal Midlands and Durban on the KwaZulu-Natal east coast.
The first stage takes riders from Camps Drift in the sleepy hollow of Pietermaritzburg to Mfula Store on the banks of the river in the Umngeni valley.

On the second and final day, participants flow further down the Umngeni Valley, crossing the top of Inanda dam.

dusi2c will consist of one event. The event will cater for those who wish to experience the social side of stage racing without the race. It will also cater for those who want to experience the event with colleagues and friends and for serious competitors and those who wish to race the event against some of the best mountain bikers in the country.
Approximately 300 two-person teams will be catered for with batched starts each day.

Accompanying this is a dazzling lighting and laser show which perfectly displays the impressive body manipulation and contortionist feats amongst a series of water fountains.

Natal Museum

KwaZulu-Natal Museum ranks among the top National Museums in South Africa's, a cultural and natural history museum renowned for its unique collections - there are eight natural history and around ten cultural history galleries that include an array of mammals (together with the last wild elephant in KwaZulu-Natal), birds, amphibians, insects, an extensive mollusc collection (there are few South African land snails that are not represented in the Natal Museum) and a life-size T-Rex model.

Pietermaritzburg Worlds View

In 1837-8, the wagons of the Voortrekkers were brought down the slopes of the Drakensberg mountains into Natal, and many came through here, into the future Pietermaritzburg.

Signs of the old route can still be seen. There is a magnificent view of Pietermaritzburg, table mountain and the surrounding country. The old Voortrekker road is a national monument.

Maritzburg City Marathon takes place at 5:30am on Sunday 26th February 2017.

The 2017 Witness Medihelp Maritzburg City Marathon, powered by Clover and Khayelihle, and all its ancillary activities will take place at the Golden Horse Casino, New England Road, Pietermaritzburg.

The Scottsville Race Course will offer plenty of off street parking. There will be a walk of about one kilometer to the start from the parking and, if you still have to collect race numbers on the day, allow for an extra 500 metres.

You are respectfully requested to avoid walking across the horse race track.

There is a pedestrian subway which will get you safely across and there will be a dedicated pedestrian lane through the motor car subway as well.

If you pass through the hotel to the start, please go AROUND the gambling area and please be respectful of the hotel and casino patrons.

Royal Agricultural Show

Throughout its history, ‘The Royal’ has had the privilege of hosting merchants and businessmen who recognise the benefits and harmony of interacting with one another, the agricultural sector and the general public.
Today the Show is the largest mixed exhibition incorporating a fully-fledged agricultural component on the continent of Africa. Not only does this include the exposition of some of the country’s finest livestock and agricultural equipment but also a range of ancillary activities and displays covering the industrial, commercial and service sectors within the province.
Included in the mix is the 2100 sqm Food Hall, where by way of exhibits and demonstrations, the entire food chain from farm field to dining table is informatively portrayed.
Similarly, the recently refurbished – century old – Crafts and Home Industries Hall affords young and old with eclectic displays and inter-active demonstrations of extraordinary talent. These include embroidery, needlework, tapestries, knitting, painting, photography, beading and wood sculpting. Whilst the emphasis is focused on the non-commercial competitive sections; the ‘purist’ component is today complemented in the adjacent hall with a mix of displays of modern crafts, many of which are available to purchase.
Other dedicated halls include those relating to business, home improvements and safety and security, together with a further 4 000 sqm under cover devoted to a broad mix of general displays.
Open site stands likewise cater for a mix of exhibits ranging from swimming pools and building requisites through to a vast array of tractors, agricultural implements and the latest motor vehicles and trucks. Also and more recently ‘The Royal’ has pleasingly seen a significant increase in the presence of materials handling and construction equipment all indicating that the Royal affords incredible value from a corporate marketing and branding perspective in respect of capital items of note.
Full of contrasts, ‘The Royal’, with its unique ambience abutting the City with its own stream, is all about old friends, new introductions, long established traditions and stimulating fresh ideas. A truly pleasant and profitable experience for participants and visitors alike.

Comrades Marathon

ENTRIES
Entries for the 2017 Comrades Marathon are limited to a maximum of 20 000 and there will be no extensions. All current and potential Comrades Marathon runners that wish to run the 2017 Comrades Marathon are urged to take careful note of the entry process and the cutoff date. All runners are urged to enter early to avoid disappointment.
Entries open on the 1 September 2016 and close on 30 November 2016 or once the quota of 20 000 has been reached.

DATE AND TIME OF RACE
The race will be run on Sunday, 04 June 2017 starting at 05h30 and finishing at 17h30. The race is run from 'gun to gun'.

ROUTE & DISTANCE
It is an "UP RUN" starting at the City Hall in Durban and finishing at The Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg. The race distance is approximately 88 km. The distance is subject to change and will be confirmed in the final race instructions.
